“It has been exciting to watch the Alt Guitar Summit emerge as one of the most interesting and distinguished forums for our instrument on the planet. The work that Joel has done with this festival to showcase the development of the guitar and the expanded role that it has taken in music is a testament to the almost unlimited sonic dimensions the word “guitar” can invoke in the imagination of musicians and fans alike.”

FULL MOON RESORT | JUNE 11-15, 2018

Welcome to The Alternative Guitar Summit 2018. We aim to offer you an experience with guitar that you cannot find anywhere else. We prize individuality and creativity. Our first year was a massive success and we're back! Our teachers this year are Oz Noy, David Gilmore, Nir Felder and Joel Harrison. By December we will know if Marc Ribot is available, and if not we'll find a replacement for him. The teachers listed above have a vast amount of experience and are able communicators. Some of the legends they have performed with include Steve Coleman, Warren Haynes, Snarky Puppy, Chaka Khan, John Medeski, Nels Cline, Roscoe Mitchell, Wayne Shorter, Jeff Chimenti, Greg Osby, Mike Stern, and....well- you get the point. There's very little that between all of us we haven't done.

We're primarily a camp for improvisers with a strong focus on jazz. But we define jazz very broadly. We value great playing beyond style and genre. All our teachers are truly great rock and blues musicians as well, and we will provide a lot of information across all traditions. So if you're a rocker, and you want to rock harder while stretching your boundaries, you'll be in good hands. Or if you're a jazz player who wants to groove harder, or play more free, same thing. You should not feel bashful about signing up if you don't know a lot about jazz. We welcome novice to advanced, no beginners please.

You'll get to jam with other students and perform with the teachers and we'll make the classes elastic enough to suit all needs and levels. Stay tuned for bio information on all the artists and a sample curriculum.

This year the legendary Creative Music Studio, founded by Karl Berger in the 80's, will be on campus with us. We're working on ways that the two camps can interact, which will create spectacular opportunities for all.

If you sign up before January we offer a $300 discount, by Feb. $200, and by March, $100. As usual scholarships are available. Please contact Joel Harrison directly for possible selection, at joel@joelharrison.com.

In the words of Summit founder Joel Harrison,
"This camp represents the type of learning situation I longed for growing up, but could never find."
